What's new in marathon nutrition?

In this lecture, Dr Asker Jeukendrup discusses What’s new in marathon nutrition? Marathons can be won or lost in the portaloo toilets, with food and fluid often being the difference between setting a world record, a season’s best, or a personal best or falling short.

This lecture discusses the science behind hydrogel technology, provides an update on caffeine doses and timing, and outlines the possible use of CGM for fuelling strategies. It also answers popular questions, such as should we all be aiming for 120 g/hour? What are new strategies to reduce stomach issues? And more! This lecture is aimed at practitioners and athletes looking for the edge on race day, as well as students and scientists interested in the theoretical underpinning of nutrition recommendations.
